Developing cultrual shifts in arround Mental Health within companies and organistations

Workplace mental health has shifted from a soft benefit to a legal obligation.
As of 1 December 2025, enforceable psychosocial hazard laws came into effect in every Australian state and territory. Every workplace is now legally required to identify, assess, and control psychosocial hazards — the same way you'd manage a physical safety risk.At the same time, mental health conditions now account for 12% of all serious workers' compensation claims in Australia, and claims increased more than 14% in a single year. The median time off work for a psychological injury is almost five times that of any other kind of workplace injury.Behind every one of those numbers is a person, a team, and a workplace that didn't quite know what to do until it was too late.
WHY THIS MATTERS NOW
Mental health affects all of us.

Whether it's someone at work, someone in your family, or someone you sit next to on the train — most of us know someone quietly doing it tough.
Very few of us know what to actually do about it.

That's where Mental Hhelp seeking —
that turn "I wish I knew what to say" into "I know how to help."

At the workplace level, this has also become a legal responsibility.

A MOVE FROM  REACTIVE TO A PROACTIVE APPROACH,
Most workplaces respond to mental health when something has already gone wrong — a resignation, a stress leave, a difficult conversation nobody quite handled.

Mental Health First Aid works the other way around.
It gives your people the recognition skills, the language, and the confidence to notice earlier, respond well, and support each other — before things escalate. Over time, that's not a training outcome. It's a cultural shift.
Teams that invest in this consistently see the change ripple through everything else: how meetings feel, how conversations happen, how people show up for one another.
 It's not soft.
It's the foundation of a workplace that actually functions well.
WHAT MHFA IS
Mental Health First Aid is the mental health equivalent of physical first aid.

Just as a physical first aider knows how to respond until proper medical help arrives, an MHFA-trained person knows how to recognise the signs of a mental health issue or crisis, offer initial support, and guide the person toward appropriate professional help.

MHFA is an internationally accredited program, developed in Australia, now taught in over 25 countries. It's evidence-based, peer-reviewed, and consistently shown to improve confidence, reduce stigma, and lead to real intervention when it matters.
WHAT'S COVERED
The  MHFA course covers:

  • How to recognise signs and symptoms of common mental health issues

  • How to have an initial conversation with someone who may be struggling

  • How to respond in a mental health crisis

  • Where and how to guide someone toward professional support

  • Practical strategies for looking after your own wellbeing along the way
HOW IT'S DELIVERED
The MHFA course runs over two days in person.

Format is flexible to suit how your team actually works — the two days can run back-to-back, as one day per week over two weeks, four afternoons across a month, or whatever pattern fits your operational rhythm.
The overall content stays the same; the delivery shape and contextual explinations can be adapted for your needs.
MORE THAN A COURSE —
A PARTNERSHIP
Training is delivered through Barefoot Raw — an Not For Profit dedicated to supporting men's mental health challenging the stigma that still exists.

Beyond the course itself, there's the opportunity to build an ongoing strategic partnership between Barefoot Raw and your organisation. We are able to come along side you and add support where it is needed, supports that lead to cultural shifts over time, not just a tick box and done..
That could look like tailored wellbeing programs, follow-up sessions, or ongoing consultation as your team's needs evolve.

The course is just the beginning.
The partnership is where the real change happens.
